Wow, Hector. Brilliant. Love the description of cycling past paddies: the sheer green-ness of it. What are you holding in your fingers? Thyme or time, dude? Fond regards to you both.
Thanks Francis, what are we holding in our fingers?! LOL! It's a mini-heart of course! A sort of cultural phenomena stemming from South Korea. You take the pic while also smiling and saying 'mini heart!' with tremendous charisma. https://www.cathaypacific.com/cx/en_SA/inspiration/travel/brief-history-korean-finger-hearts.html more info there! They also do medium hearts and big hearts over the head.
This story and reflection resonate deeply with my own observations about parents. It’s only in the past five years or so that I’ve started to notice how much of them is in me. After my mother’s passing, I’ve been spending more time with my father. We never had much time just for ourselves before.
Despite the 30-year age difference, I can clearly see myself in him: lack of focus, impulsiveness, poor driving skills—but also spontaneity, humor, and curiosity about the world.
My father has been cycling almost daily for years. I never saw cycling as a way to spend time. And yet, here we are: four months ago, I bought my first spandex cycling outfit, and now I’m riding daily too! :-)
Wow, Lukasz thanks so much for sharing this. Sorry to hear about your loss.
I'm happy you're discovering what you have in common with your dad! And thrilled that you're going to be riding (in lycra) daily, just like him. You must write about it!
What a great adventure for you and your lovely dad to have shared. I'm so pleased the two of you got to do this together. Happy New Year. Chris
Happy new year Chris and thanks for your kind comment!
